Vice-President

Marcel Isaac Orellana

Hi everybody! My name is Marcel Orellana and I have the honor of serving as your Vice-President for the 2021-2022 academic year. I joined AMSA in Fall 2019 and absolutely fell in love with this organization. I loved seeing the collaboration, camaraderie, and shared values that all of the AMSA members and officers shared with me. I am currently a senior majoring in Biological Sciences and plan to apply to medical school after graduating and taking the MCAT. I am particularly interested in orthopedic surgery after seeing how a total knee replacement helped my father improve his quality of life! Some of my hobbies outside of school include playing guitar, cooking, and taking long walks with my dog around my neighborhood. As we begin this new academic year, we will undoubtedly face unprecedented challenges with our in-person transition. However, I am confident that we will be able to persevere and continue to uphold the high reputation and welcoming nature of AMSA.

International Outreach

Isabella Alvarez

Hello, amazing people! My name is Isabella Alvarez. I am delighted to be a part of this fantastic leadership team as one of the Directors for International Outreach. To give you some background, I am a community college transfer and I am part of the first generation of my family to be born in the U.S. The first semester that I transferred to FAU after receiving my AA, I fell in love with AMSA and all that it has to offer. Such as, going to retirement homes, interacting with people who have disabilities, learning different cultures, meeting and interacting with different kinds of doctors, etc.—I was hooked. In the midst of these opportunities, I got plugged into mission trips. Each trip I have been on has shifted my perspective on various things and has humbled me. Going outside of what is familiar is necessary to become the best version of yourself and I believe going to different countries is a great way to do so. Mission trips are something I plan to continue beyond my college years, which makes this experience super exciting as I lend a helping hand. Fun fact, I was not always a Biological Science Major. Originally when I started college, I was an Exercise Science Major to eventually do something in Sports Medicine but soon realized what I specifically want to become—a Cardiothoracic Surgeon. Outside of school, I am also a servant-leader for the young adult ministry at Church of All Nations in which my roles include being a singer on the worship team, as well as, being one of the leaders for the prayer team. A hobby I love to do is kickboxing at my local gym and running long distances. Medicine and health is a passion that keeps growing for me each day and I love that we can all come together and learn from one another in this multicultural organization. I would like to encourage you to join our International Outreach Trips, if you have any questions feel free to contact me or my Co-Director Izzy. We are here to help you and make this journey memorable. Cannot wait to meet you!

I am currently in my second year at Florida Atlantic University and am pursuing a degree in biological sciences. After I graduate, I hope to attend medical school and become a physician, although I don’t know which specialty I am most interested in just yet. Outside of AMSA, I am involved in the Indian Student Association and work as a volunteer tutor. For fun, I like to play soccer, work out, listen to music, and go to new places. If you have any questions about AMSA or about school, or if you just want to hang out, feel free to reach out to me! I look forward to meeting all of you!

Volunteering

Kaitlin Eddy

Hello AMSA members! My name is Kaitlin Eddy, and I am excited to be one of your Co-Directors of Volunteering for the 2021-2022 year. This is my fourth academic year being an AMSA member. Being I am a senior at FAU majoring in Biological Sciences. I plan to go to medical school and become a surgeon. You can usually find me studying or doing homework in the library. When I’m not in the library, I’m tending to my plants, skating with my friends, or making mediocre paintings as a stress reliever. Currently, I volunteer for Feeding South Florida at the Hester Community Center to distribute food. I’m excited to meet everyone at the general body meetings and events. My goal is to provide our members with volunteering opportunities and inspire you all. If you have any questions or concerns regarding our interest group, volunteering hours, or plants please do not hesitate to reach out to me!
